We will take you along the streets of the old city centre where you can learn about the history dating back to the foundation of the port built by the will of Emperor Trajan.

What to expect

Our walking tour will start from Piazza Calamatta, a meeting point of the inhabitants of Civitavecchia heading towards the Church of Santa Maria dell' Orazione e Morte, a great example of the baroque style and venue of the Confraternity linked to it.
We will continue to Piazza San Giovanni towards the city market where you will get the joyful and colourful atmosphere with the locals and Civitavecchia's most typical products! Passing by the ancient Arch known as "Archetto" to reach Piazza Leandra here we will visit a building where frescoes made in the 16th century were discovered in the 1970s during  maintenance work. They were nearly identical to paintings by Raphael in the Vatican and thought to be by him or a student of his.
You cannot miss the main Cathedral of San Francesco and the access to The Historical Port where you will admire The Fort of Michelangelo, The Wall of Urban VIII, The Vanvitelli Fountain, The Ancient Rocca and The Roman Darsena.
Leaving Porta Livorno, a monumental passageway that connects the city to its port, we will also tell you the story of the "statue of the Japanese", Hasekura Tsunenaga, a figure linked to the twinning of Civitavecchia with the city of Ishinomaki.

Difficulty

The tour is recommended for adults, families with children. It is not recommended for people with disabilities on wheelchairs due to architectural barriers (some sites are difficult to access), the elderly with walking difficulties due to long-distance walking.
